Thesis Work

Robot Immigrants: My Heart is a Traveler (excerpts)

PIMA MFA Thesis Project: Lobsterbird Yi, Daniel Munkus & Tinuade Oyelowo

Personal stories of immigration across multiple generations and cultures set against a backdrop of perpetual technological change. By layering translations between an intangible past and an ephemeral future, we are creating multiple bridges and links across borders. Presented at 7 Dunham, Brooklyn.

The Weather Channel

PIMA MFA Thesis Project: Inkyoung Bae & Chanan Ben Simon

A TV opera about memories from the end of the world.

Exercises on The Presence of Odradek (trailer)

PIMA MFA Thesis Project: Malena Dayen (with Donghwi Han)

The Presence of Odradek is a new experimental opera based on Franz Kafka’s The Cares of a Family Man.

Playing with Kafka’s text and with poems by Avot Yeshurun the work explores how art is able to give presence to an absence. Absences fill our world; ghosts of ancestors, secrets untold, and emotions too big for the conscious mind to process find in this performance a space to exist, without renouncing their absence-ness.

CONTAINERTOPIA

PIMA MFA Thesis Project: Sam Harmet & Julia Frey (with John Gasper)

CONTAINERTOPIA is a 21st-century take on vaudeville that looks at the ever-shrinking living spaces that New Yorkers submit themselves to. With synthesizer-heavy Weimar cabaret tunes, original music, and projection-based set design, our multimedia cabaret explores and exposes the popular trend of tiny living. What afforded to us is affordable?
